God Confirms Faith (Genesis 13)

 God Confirms Faith

In Genesis Abram and Lot had a lot of property. But the property was too much for the land. They had to split.
Abram gave Lot the choice and Lot chose the absolute best land without even making a fair deal.

Abram had already received a promise of great blessings, but right now there may have been reason for disappointment.

He just had to separate from one of his own family members because of potential fighting

He got the lesser quality of land and now he was wondering about the land of Canaan.

It was in this situation that God took care to confirm his faith. He didn’t change any circumstances, but He did give Abram His word:

[Gen 13:14-18 NKJV] 14 And the LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: "Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are--northward, southward, eastward, and westward; 15 "for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever. 16 "And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, [then] your descendants also could be numbered. 17 "Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you." 18 Then Abram moved [his] tent, and went and dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre, which [are] in Hebron, and built an altar there to the LORD.

God had already given this promise. But He decided to repeat His promises in this specific situation while Abram could see the land God would give him.

He repeats the promise with His own voice in this difficult situation. And He also tells him to look at the land. To use his senses now that he was actually there.

God put quite some words into confirming Abram’s faith.

He does put effort into getting the faith of His sincere people strengthened. This does not mean He always changes the circumstances. It often means that He gives us the right words on the right time if we are willing to hear it.

Now we must make sure not to overstate this. Sometimes it is gonna feel like heaven is silent. But when we need it and if we fight the faith ourselves and are willing to keep going, He does give the right words at the right moment. Maybe not audibly like Abram, but surely in His own way.

The crux of the matter is that God cares about our faith and He does not just leave us hanging. In His own time and way He meets our needs.
