The Wine of Noah (Genesis 9)

 The Wine of Noah

When Ham saw and gossiped about the nakedness of his father Noah, Noah himself was not completely blameless.

Of course his son should not have exploited the moment of vulnerability of his father, but at the same time he was, in this instance, vulnerable because of his own actions.

[Gen 9:20-21 NKJV] 20 And Noah began [to be] a farmer, and he planted a vineyard. 21 Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent.

[Gen 9:24 NKJV] 24 So Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done to him.

Alcohol is an intoxicating substance.
Noah gained access to it through the vineyard he had. And as soon as he had access to it, the temptation was there.

He gave in. He did not just drink, he drank until he was drunk and sleeping because of the wine.

In this intoxicated moment people may do things that they would never do if they could use their brains. The reasoning part of the mind is weakened and thus Noah ended up naked in his tent for all those who walked into the tent to see.

This is what wine can do to the mind.

It reduces the senses and may put us in a vulnerable position with possible negative consequences.
