Gods Patience in Striving (Genesis 6)

 Gods Patience in Striving

In the time of Noah wickedness had pervaded the earth. It was very bad. Every intent and thought of the hearth was continually evil and not many people were left for God. Only Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord while the others had been corrupted.

By nature we are but flesh. No flesh can inherit the kingdom of God. It is sinful and wrong.

We have to be born again.

[Jhn 3:5-6 NKJV] 5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

But the Holy Spirit is sent as One Who strives against the flesh. And it does not just do this in the Saints who walk in the Spirit, but also with the wicked who resist Him.

But at some point God Himself has had enough too:

[Gen 6:3 NKJV] 3 And the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he [is] indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years."

These ‘120 years’ are not about the age of men. Noah himself and his descendants later became way older than 120 years.
This seems to be rather a pronouncement of how long the world would yet have before being destroyed by the flood.
They would still get 120 years. God has much patience. He does not immediately destroy for the sake of destroying. He’s not out to get them as quickly as possible even though wickedness had pervaded the earth and the sons of God had corrupted themselves with marrying those who walked in the flesh.

Often God is called a longsuffering and patient God who is not willing that anyone should be lost.

Even here He gives them time. It is interesting that He even sends His Spirit to strive with the flesh to those who are gonna be doomed. They too get a chance.

But there is a limit. His patience does not extend forever. His Spirit would not always strive with the flesh. It would not go on forever. God hates evil. And when humanity keeps resisting His Spirit there is a point where full judgment comes.

At some point enough is enough and the flood comes.

Sure, He patiently gives them 120 years.

But yes, their days would be 120 years.

So our God is still.

He is patient towards us. But if we keep resisting His Spirit in a rebellious spirit, what else could He do? Are we not just sinful flesh who will not inherit the kingdom of God? Corrupt humanity doomed to death? If we want no help, we won’t get it. If we do not want salvation from sin and death, we get what we wish.

At that point He would execute judgment towards us which we rightfully deserve.

So it is with the final judgment too.

He is patient, but let us not presume on that as if He is not a mighty Judge.
