God Remembers (Genesis 8)

 God Remembers

The earth had just been flooded. All animals and all of humanity had just been destroyed in water:


[Gen 7:23 NKJV] 23 So He destroyed all living things which were on the face of the ground: both man and cattle, creeping thing and bird of the air. They were destroyed from the earth. Only Noah and those who [were] with him in the ark remained [alive].


But Noah alone, with his family and the animals in the ark, survived in this terrible storm and destruction.

All the rain, streams and destruction could have understandably moved Noah and his family to fear.
The entire world was covered with the flood and they alone were left. If God had destroyed so many people, could they assume that God will care about them?

What if they were stuck in the ark?

What if the destruction would take the ark?

But in all this God never forgot these few people who had trusted Him and had remained faithful to Him:


[Gen 8:1-5 NKJV] 1 Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that [were] with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided. 2 The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were also stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained. 3 And the waters receded continually from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters decreased. 4 Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat. 5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month. In the tenth [month], on the first [day] of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen.


After a while the waters disappeared and they were able to go out of the ark.

God had remembered them and took care of them.

He did this for those who walked with Him, His people.

It is in His character to remember them. He does not forget even the situation may seem terrible like in the case of Noah.

He has not changed since then.

Often we may feel like Noah. Though we trust in Him, the situation may move us to fear. Destruction on a physical, emotional or spiritual level may be all around us and it may even overwhelm us. Perhaps we feel like God would forget us in that lonely ark.
When would the ‘waters’ decrease?

Besides, who could stand before God’s wrath!

But God remembers the broken in spirit, those who feebly trust in Him.

One day the waters will decrease and those in the ark will turn out to be safe.

Noah himself had to wait 150 long days in the ark before the water even started to decrease.

But God did not forget. And He never will.

We will here look at the curses given to the man and woman specifically since these reveal how people often work. They show how the relation between the two sexes often are.
