God will Finish His Work with you, the Sabbath (Genesis 2)

 God Finishes and Perfects

The Sabbath

God decided to create heaven and earth in 6 days. On the seventh day he ceased working. Right after the sixth day it is said:

[Gen 1:31 NKJV] 31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed [it was] very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

It was very good. Not just good, like in the days before. But it was very good. All was perfect and complete.

This is why God rested on the seventh day. He ceased working:

[Gen 2:1-3 NKJV] 1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

It is in God’s to complete His work. He did not stop at the first day or the second day. He did not stop at good. He only stopped working when it was complete and it could be said that it was very good. He loves perfecting and completing His work.

And He still does.
The number seven has forever become a symbol of completion since God rested on the seventh day.

He took so much care about His creation that He even set the day apart when He ceased working.

Imagine you creating some kind of building or project. It shows quite a lot of care when you decide to memorialise the day on which you finally finished working on that project. And you are not just happy you finished working because you do not have to work anymore. But you rather rest because you can see the result of that project is very good.

This is how God thought of His creation. He loved it.

With the fall it is no longer very good.

But even though creation changed, God did not. The Sabbath is forever a memorial that God loves to complete and perfect His work. He loves this world and everything in it.
And this is not just a generalization, but it also true for you, oh anxious and imperfect soul.

He loves to finish the work He started in you. He loves to consider you perfect by the perfect work and atonement of Christ. He would absolutely love to make everything very good again.

This is a God whom we can rely on. And though the ways in which He will work may seem strange, if we keep relying on Him it will always lead to inevitable completion.

Why?
Cause that has simply been His character from the beginning. This was and is His way of working.

And He shows how important this is to Him through the Sabbath. It is the character and spirit behind that great completion in creation we should take care to remember.
