God the Great and Loving Creator (Genesis 1)
God the Creator
In Genesis God is portrayed as the Creator.
This tells us that God wanted to created this world. He actually cared about creating this and He wanted us to exist.
He did not wish Himself to be the only Being in existence and thus He starts creating.
[Gen 1:1 NKJV] 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
It is part of God's character to create.
And when He creates He shows Himself orderly. He loves order and distinction. He decided to create the world in seven days each with its own thing.
He also decided to work progressively. Everything created on a day was to prepare stuff for the next day until humanity was made. He could’ve done it differently, but this is the God of order.
As for distinctions:
[Gen 1:4-5, 7-8, 10, 16-18 NKJV] 4 And God saw the light, that [it was] good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. ... 7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which [were] under the firmament from the waters which [were] above the firmament; and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day. ... 10 And God called the dry [land] Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that [it was] good. ... 16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. [He made] the stars also. 17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that [it was] good.
Such is the God of order and clearness.
Disorder and unclarity was not God’s original purpose. It is not in His character. In creation we can see evidence of this.
Isn’t there much evidence of His structured character even in corrupted creation? Is not His care and love presented to us everyday in the flowers He made and in the small bird He so tenderly created?
God is not just the God of the elephant or the God of the whale. He has a tender side too. He is the God of the small bird. He is the God of that small tender plant no one would even see. He is the God of that which may be despised.
And this is part of His unchangeable character. Does it not make sense for this God to be so loving and tender Himself? And why do we exclude ourselves as being recipients from this?
[Gen 1:20-22, 24-25 NKJV] 20 Then God said, "Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens." 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that [it was] good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth." ... 24 Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, [each] according to its kind"; and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that [it was] good.
But this same God is the God of the sun, the moon and the stars. He is the God of those countless galaxies and the deep oceans with massive creatures.
It is in His character to be both tender and awesome at the same time.
Creation makes it loud and clear.
Is He not to be respected and loved?
Creation simply shows too much about God to put in a single chapter. It tells us about His greatness, love and order all at the same time.
